Abbeyfeale RFC Celebrate Their Victory

Fine Spirit of Comradeship and enthusiasm.

“This is the first time that both the Munster Junior Cup and the Cork County Cup have been won by the same team in the same year,” said Dr. M.G. O’Mahony, secretary of the Abbeyfeale Rugby Club, when speaking at a victory dinner at Leen’s Hotel, Abbeyfeale, on Saturday night.

Mr Bernard Broderick, Captain, presented the medals to members of the team and thanked them for their enthusiasm.

Mr. Vincent Gitlenane, proposing the toast of the team, spoke of the fine enthusiasm and team spirit which existed among the members. He added that it was a great honour of a club which was only founded four years ago, to win both these trophies in the same year.

SUCCESSFUL
Mr. Bernard Broderick, Captain, said in his reply that it was agreat honour to lead the team. He paid tribute to his successor, Paddy Bouchier-Hayes, and felt sure that his season would be equally successful.

Mr Richard Wolfe. In proposing the toast of the press, paid tribute to the “Limerick Leader”, and said that they had been of tremendous help to them at all times.

ENTHUSIASM
Mr. N.S. Buckley, Vice-President, spoke of the social importance of Rugby, particularly in rural area’s. The fine spirit of comradship and enthusiasm which the Abbeyfeale Club had engendered in the four short years of it’s existence was now quite obvious, he said.
He paid tribute to Dr. and Mrs. O’Manony, whose great work since the clubs formation played a vital part I securing the victories which they were now celebrating.
Mr. Buckley concluded: “I must also praise highly the fine dinner provided for us tonight my Mr Dan Murphy and his gracious wife.”

Mr. T. Collins also spoke.
