Abbeyfeale For Junior Final

Shannon 3 pts: Abbeyfeale 6 pts

Abbeyfeale and Nenagh will meet in the final of the Munster Junior Cup.
Yesterday at a sun baked Thomond Park, Abbeyfeale defeated Shannon in the second semi-final when their right winger Frank O’Kelly, proved the hero.

In the closing minutes of the game O’Kelly landed a fine penalty to negative a try by Shannon out-half Ger O’Carroll, and with the last kick of extra time O’Kelly again kicked a penalty to decide the issue.. He was certainly the winners hero but their pack showed tremendous fire in the loose and Billy O’Mahony was particularly prominent. This player will also figure in the senior final, for he was on the Dolphin that beat Highfield on Saturday in the semi-final of the senior cup.

Shannon had fine forwards in Gerry O’Brien, Bernard Broderick, and theo Handley. Behing the scrum Peter Keogh and John Barry hit it off wellat half back and Frank O’Kelly and Nick Cotter were also in the fore.

Shannons outstanding players were Liam Ryan,Joe McSweeney,Eric McNamara and their Try scorer Ger O’Carroll in the forwards Dick Heaslip, Bob McClonkey, Kevin Braddish and Michael Ryan were very prominent.
