Abbeyfeale won the Munster Junior Cup for the first time by defeating Nenagh in a thrilling final before a huge attendance at Thomond Park yesterday.
Heavy Rain made the pitch heavy and greasy and play was confined to two evenly-matched packs.
In the first half the Nenagh forwards with Gerry Lewis and Joe Gleeson particularly prominent, were on top, but they failed to score.
On the resumption Abbeyfeale came more into the picture and the only score came when right-winger Frank Kelly chased a kick ahead and beat the defence for the touchdown.
Kelly and Billy O’Mahony, Peter Keogh and Nicholas Cotter were in great form for Abbeyfeale.
For Nenagh John Shoer and Jimmy O’Brien were prominent behind the scrum.
