AGM Report 2006

The A.G.M. took place at the “Grove”, last friday night and the club wishes to thank everyone who attended, especially the many new people who are welcome to the committee.

President Denis Murphy presided over the many topics of the club’s performance during the past year, before the Secretary and Treasurer report were given.

Following this Denis formerly handed over the reigns to 2005-2006 Vice President, Mr Dave Browne to take over as President for the coming season.

The club would like to take this opportunity to thank Denis for his hard work and contribution to the club over the past Season and are pleased to have Denis’s continued involvement with Abbeyfeale R.F.C. During his Presidency the senior team retained their Division 2 placing.

The Club fielded for the first time an Under 20′s side and a record number of underage players joined the club.

Also in conjunction with the I.R.F.U. the club welcomed our first ever Youth Development Officer Mr Quido De Luise.

The Club is delighted to have Mr. Dave Browne as President, he has a wealth of rugby experience both on and off the field and has been affiliated with the club for many years. Dave, married to Mary, is the son-in-law of our former President of nearly two decades, the late Mrs. Betty O’Mahony. The history books show that Dave was the Director of Operations for the Clubhouse extension in 1984 which was completed “Just in Time”, (and well within budget) for the Munster Team of 1978 visit to Abbeyfeale. No doubt Dave will bring vigour and excitement to the future growth of the club and he tell me, he has many new ideas and challenges for it’s development.

Joining Dave as Vice-President is Mr. Billy O’Rourke, who as a past player and coach has been very dynamic and industrious within the club. Billy is also involved with the Munster Youths and this past season, as well as being an active, committee member, he also coached the senior and Under 18 squads.

Both men have been associated with the club for many years and we wish them every success in their new roles.

A new patron was also proposed to succeed Mrs. O’Mahony due to her sad passing in October. Elizanne McMahon was elected as the new patron of Abbeyfeale R.F.C. and how fitting that Elizanne should take the place of her dear friend and fellow rugby enthusiast Betty. The club is delighted that another great lady has accepted this honour.

The club welcomed many new and not so new members to the committe and the sub-committee. In case you were unable to attend the A.G.M., please note new volunteers are welcome at any time.

With all the business of appointing the Club Officers complete it was now time to kick off the “End of Season”, party.

A large number of players especially the Under 20′s and Under 18′s were in attendance as well as our Sponsors who were invited to join in the celebration. Bill Blair was on hand to play the music, and T.J. O’Riordan served up some very tasty snacks. Our thanks to Bill, T.J. and events co-ordinator Redmond Quigley for a great night.
